Kochen, Essen und kaufen

Three of my favorite things...cooking, eating and shopping!
This month we had a special german cooking class on fondue.  It was a hands on class and we all chopped, peeled, sliced and stirred.  The best part of all was eating it all afterwards.

We made a cheese fondue, an asian fondue, a champagne fondue, and a raspberry dessert fondue.  We also made a garlic sauce, a banana curry sauce and a horseradish sauce.  It was all sooo good!

This is a picture of our cooking instructor, Karin between me and Karma.  She has been teaching cooking for many years and teaches not only the USO cooking classes but some cooking classes for the German ladies clubs in many of the villages around the area.

Karma and I went back to one of our favorite places this week...Globus!
Globus is like super Walmart.  It is about 15 minutes away over in K-town.
I thought it would be fun to just let you see some pictures of what the shelves of a big German grocery store look like.  We just have so much fun walking up and down every aisle and trying to figure out what everything is.
This is the bread section. They have some fabulous bread here.  All the grocery stores have a bäckerei (bakery) in them.  Their sweets aren't as sweet as we are used to.  They just don't use as much sugar as Americans do!
Here is Karma in the produce section.  They have lots of interesting produce.  We were trying to figure out what that yellow pokey fruit was in the basket above the avocados.

Shelves full of bagged pasta and the milk case. Lots of the milk comes in glass bottles.
Here is some good old german sausages.
And this a selection of caviar.  I was amazed at all the different kinds. Some of it even comes in a tube, like a tube of toothpaste!
And this is the canned veggies....or should I say bottled.  And they are so pretty with the carrots and peas layered in like that.
And finally here is picture of inside the Toys R Us.  Yes!  They have a Toys R US here and of course all the videos, books, and toys are in german. But they do have lots of familiar brands, just packaged for Germany.

Okay that's about it except for the weather report.  It's getting pretty boring, but it's more of the same.  SNOW!   School was let out early on Thursday and cancelled all together on Friday.  It's been snowing again today.  It sort of melts a bit in between but before you know it it is snowing again.  On Thursday I drove the mini to Otterbach with Missy and Karma for a stamping party.  It was so slippery but we made it...I even made it up the big hill to Phyllis' house.  It snowed for the three hours we were there ( this is when the let school out early) and then Karma was willing and able to drive us back down the hill and safely home. I think we got about 6 inches that day.

Travis is enjoying all the days off from school.  On Friday he had some friends over for nerf wars and a movie.  What a great bunch of friends he has here.  He would rather stay in town on the weekends and hang out with them than go explore Europe...crazy boy!

Love and miss you all,
