Fine Dining, Zehntscheune Style!

 Although we were still in deep freeze mode and having a slow week, Mike and I had a busy Saturday.  I had to be at the church at 8:00 a.m. for the Worldwide Leadership Training broadcast.  When I got there it was ice cold inside the chapel!  The heater had broken and so we all huddled together in our coats, hats and mittens and watched the training.  I was so glad I had decided that it was not a day for fashion but a day for warmth and worn my big furry boots with my church dress.  My friend wasn't so lucky, she had nice dress shoes on and her feet were numb after about fifteen minutes.  
While I was shivering through training, Mike went to the Bad Durkheim flea market and did some shivering too!  Then we met back at home and decided to head up north to see a couple of antique dealers.  Inga in Konz and Angela in Herforst.  I found some little barley twist tables in Konz..they are just what I was looking for!  It was a cold but beautiful drive up near Trier and Spangdahlem!

That evening Mike and Missy McGrath set up a really fun evening for five of us couples.  They made reservations at a restaurant that is in a little old village about an hour north of us called Herrenstein.  The restaurant is in a very old tithing barn (Zehntscheune).  One of the stone walls is actually part of the original village wall and is almost 1,000 years old.  The words "old world charm" can't even begin to describe this place!!

I've been there before for lunch with the girls. Now I know that if you call a few days ahead, Hans will order you special swcheinsteaks, marinate them in a special marinade and then grill them himself over an open fire.  His wife makes salads and potatoes. It was such a yummy meal!!

There was a sixteenth birthday party going on upstairs and they had hired this guy to be the entertainment.  He was so funny and kept coming downstairs to talk to us. His English was very good and it was fun to interact with him!  His act was to be a "Narr" which means "fool" in German or what we'd call a jester!

And now it's off I go to build yet another fire to help keep this house of white walls and white tile nice and toasty warm.

The good news is that it is in the twenties today and the forecast calls for twenties and thirties all week with a chance of snow!  That is a heat wave and downright balmy compared to the single digits we were having for over two weeks now!
