This n That

I can't really focus on just one theme this week, so here are some tidbits from the past few days.


Travis is now riding the bus home most afternoons.  The bus system for the base schools is very interesting.  Here at Ramstein AFB they have over 60 buses most of them made by mercedes and all of them very nice tour type buses.  NO yellow school buses here!   They have one or two buses per village depending on the number of students in each village.  Spesbach has two buses.  The buses pick up all of the students at once, grade school thru high school.  They drop off the kids at each school and in the afternoon they do it all backwards...pick up the middle school kids, the grade school kids and then the high school kids and drop them off at their villages.  Here's a picture of the line of buses coming to the high school to pick up.  You can never even see them all at once, there are so many.  The kids have to have a bus pass to get on their bus and have to carry it at all times as well as their I.D. cards.

We have been very social this week.  We met another family from church who live here in Spesbach.  They are the Holowkas and they have five kids aged 22-13.  They have a son named Junior who is a junior :)  and he is friends with T.J.  Mike and I were having lunch at Lucky's on base and Jerri recognized us and invited us over to their table to eat with them.  We had a really great visit! 
 On Friday we were invited over to dinner at Larry and Karma Kaufman's house in  Hutchenhousen, which is just the next village over.  Larry is an old friend of Mike's from the Idaho ANG.  He is here as a guard guy doing a special assignment for two years.   They made us a wonderful steak dinner and Karma even made apfelkuchen for dessert ( which is a german version of apple pie to die for!)   Karma invited me to go along to her german class tomorrow...I am very excited to check that out.  We are also scheduled to take a german baking class in November through the USO  and she is getting me all hooked up in the officer's spouses club.  She's an answer to prayers because I just needed someone to give me a little push to get involved with things.  There really is so much to do here!  
  Travis was also being social.  He was invited to a friend from church's birthday party on Saturday night.  They had so much fun. They hung out and listened to music and played night games.  Those are two of his favorite things to do!


Mike is searching high and low for a car.  The old white rent a wreck mercedes has to go back on Thursday.  He is getting a bit desperate and will now settle for just about anything.  Just kidding!   He is pretty picky when it comes to his cars.  Hopefully something will come up.

Last thing for tonight.  While I am still feeling a bit lonely at church, Mike and Travis are starting to feel right at home.  Travis was made assistant patrol leader and Mike is getting a calling next Sunday.  He won't let me tell anyone what it is yet (NO it isn't bishop LOL).  You will have to check in to next Sunday's blog to find out.   Here's a picture of the "so in demand boys" in front of our church building in Kaisersalutern.  They are off to France next week for a campout.  I will be sure to include those highlights as well.
