Out with a BANG!

Time to say good-bye to 2009 and hello to 2010...

The day after Christmas, Mike and Travis made a day trip over to Winterberg for a day of skiing. It is not a steep resort, but it's big and it has a steep ski jump.  

Then on the 28th and 29th they took another ski trip, this time to Austria.  They were trying to get in as much ski fun as they could before Mike left to go to training in Florida for a month.  The first day they skied at Zugspitze by Garmisch, Germany .

Then the next day they went across the border and skied at Solden in Austria.  They had great weather and had an awesome time as usual

  I tried to get Mike to blog a bit about it, but he was too busy getting ready to go.  


New Years Eve was finally here and boy were the boys excited about that!  They sell some pretty amazing fireworks here, things that would be SO illegal in the states.  Just stop in at the local grocery store and pick up a package of bottle rockets or roman candles for an exciting evening of fun!

We were invited to go over to Travis' seminary teacher's house with some other families.  Travis went early and watched movies and played video games with the kids.   Mike and went over a bit later, but in plenty of time to ring in the new year.  Speaking of "ringing",  at midnight all the church bells start ringing, and ringing, and ringing.  And the fireworks start shooting up into the sky.  It was doing the normal misty thing, and then it actually started raining pretty hard.  Mike said it was a good thing or else there would have been lots of fires to put out.  Notice how they stuck the bottle rockets into the sewer cover.  Ingenious!  We really had a fun time watching the kids light them all off.  We had a ton and it lasted nearly an hour!


We had a little hiccup in getting Mike off to the states.  Let's just say we now know first hand that gas does not work in a diesel car.  That's all I am going to say...if you want more details, you will have to talk to Mike.


We have also been worried about some issues back at home.  It really makes us realize how far away we are and that we wish we could be there to help.  The cabin had a bit of a frozen pipe disaster and daughter, Codi had a sledding disaster.  She said "who knew you could do so much damage from just running into a little sapling?"  She broke her elbow and sustained a concussion.  We are just crossing fingers and praying hard that everything turns out well and that Codi won't need surgery.


I was telling Travis this week, that I had been thinking a lot about Mike being gone.  What was really hitting me hard, was the thought that if Trav and I were two little dots on the globe, then our two little dots are now half a world away from all the rest of our family dots.  It made me feel very small and very far away.   Best not to dwell on those sort of things, but I sure wish a dot or two from that side of the world were here spending January with our two little dots!
